SanukDee ("we", "our", or "the app") is a Thai language learning application. This privacy policy explains how we handle your information when you use SanukDee.

1. Information We Collect

Anonymous Account. SanukDee creates an anonymous session when you first open the app. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information. No account registration is required.

Audio Recordings. When you use the speech practice feature, your voice is recorded temporarily and sent to our server for speech-to-text processing. Audio recordings are processed in real time and are not stored after transcription is complete.

Learning Progress. Your lesson completions, collected phrases, streak data, and settings are stored locally on your device. A minimal subset (lesson completion counts) is associated with your anonymous session ID on our server for rate limiting purposes.

Analytics. We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics (screens visited, features used, lesson completions). This data is not linked to any personally identifiable information and is used solely to improve the app experience. You can opt out by contacting us.

Device Information. We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses for tracking purposes, or any device telemetry beyond the anonymous analytics described above.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Speech-to-text: Audio recordings are sent to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription. Audio is processed in real time and not retained.
• AI conversations: Your text messages within lessons and scenarios are sent to our AI language model to generate Thai language responses. Conversation history is kept only for the duration of the active session and is not stored permanently on our servers.
• Text-to-speech: Thai text is sent to Google's Text-to-Speech API to generate audio playback. No personal data is included in these requests.
• Rate limiting: We track anonymous usage counts to prevent abuse of our AI services. This data is associated with your anonymous session ID, not with any personal information.
• Analytics: Anonymous usage data is analyzed to understand which features are most useful and to improve the learning experience.

SanukDee uses the following third-party services to provide its features:

These services process data as described above. We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal information to any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your learning progress is stored locally on your device using encrypted storage. Server-side data (anonymous session, rate limit counters) is hosted on Supabase with encryption at rest and in transit. We use industry-standard security measures to protect the limited data we handle.

5. Children's Privacy

SanukDee is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can delete it.

6. Data Retention

Since we use anonymous authentication, there is no personal account to delete. On-device data can be removed by uninstalling the app or clearing app data in your device settings. Anonymous server-side session data is automatically purged after extended periods of inactivity.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights regarding any personal data we process:

• Access (Art. 15 GDPR): You have the right to obtain confirmation of whether we process personal data about you and to receive a copy of that data.
• Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): You have the right to have inaccurate personal data corrected.
• Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You have the right to request deletion of your personal data where there is no overriding reason for us to continue processing it.
• Restriction (Art. 18 GDPR): You have the right to request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
• Objection (Art. 21 GDPR): You have the right to object to processing of your personal data based on our legitimate interests.
• Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Lodge a complaint (Art. 77 GDPR): You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your habitual residence, place of work, or place of the alleged infringement. The supervisory authority in Baden-Württemberg, Germany is: Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg.

Because SanukDee does not collect personally identifiable information, there is minimal personal data to exercise these rights against. You can also:

• Clear all local data by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage
• Deny microphone permission to prevent any audio recording
• Use the app without any audio features (text-only mode)

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
